Dental implants are an excellent option to replace missing teeth. The implant functions as a replacement tooth root and is used in conjunction with a dental crown to provide a fully functional replacement tooth that matches your natural teeth in color, shape, and size.

Am I A Candidate For Dental Implants?

Dental Implants North Dakota

Patients who have lost several teeth, cannot chew, smile comfortably, or are unhappy with dentures may be a candidate for dental implants. Candidates that want dental implants must also be in good overall health, have strong gums, bones, and follow excellent oral hygiene. This includes brushing, flossing, and getting regular dental examinations.

Why you may not be a candidate for Dental Implants

You may not be a candidate if you have a high risk of developing periodontal or gum disease. Smokers and diabetics may also not be a candidate for dental implants. Dr. Deeter will review your oral health and x-rays to determine if you are eligible.

Dental Implants Benefits dental implants | Bismarck, ND

Deeter Dental recommends dental implants over alternative procedures such as dentures or dental bridges for our guests who have enough bone structure to hold the implant. Dental implants offer the following advantages over dentures and dental bridges:

  • Permanent restoration
  • Look and feel like your natural teeth
  • No slippage resulting in slurred speech – a common downside of dentures
  • Implants have better long-term prognosis than dental bridges
  • Improved comfort
  • Enables you to eat any foods you like without pain or difficulty
  • Does not impact tooth structure of adjoining teeth, resulting in better long-term oral health
  • Increased durability
  • Results can vary depending on the expertise and skill of the dental surgeon
  • 3-D imaging available using the state-of-the-art Kodak 9300 Cone Beam CT Scanner

What Are The risks of a Dental implant Procedure?

The dental implant procedure is a relatively safe procedure but as with any surgery, some risks may exist. Some risks may include complications from surgery, excessive bleeding, and a reaction to the anesthesia. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Deeter will discuss the risks with you in greater detail.

Dental Implant Surgery

Dental Implant Procedure Bismarck NDThe dental implant process is highly complex, requiring the skills of an experienced implant dentist. This is not an instant solution to your dental problem. We can complete the procedure in a series of stages over several months.

In the first stage, Bismarck implant dentist Dr. Lucas Deeter will install the implant into the bone socket of your missing tooth. The implant consists of a small titanium post. In order for the implant to properly function as a tooth root, the jawbone must grow around the implant, anchoring it securely in your jaw. This process, known as osseointegration, can take approximately 6-12 weeks.

Once osseointegration is complete, a small connector post called an abutment is attached to the implant. Dr. Deeter will then make an impression of your tooth and create a model of your bite. Your new tooth crown will be created from the impression and model. Once the lab has created your crown, Dr. Deeter will attach it to the abutment. At the same time, Dr. Deeter will be able to adjust the color of your crown to match your natural teeth. The end result is a restoration which looks, feels, and functions like your natural teeth.

Bismarck implant dentist Dr. Lucas Deeter received his dental implant training from Nobel Biocare, California Implant Institute, and is a Fellow of the Misch International Implant Institute. He has a special interest in performing dental implants procedures and denture work and has been doing so for many years. Dr. Deeter performs both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of implant dentistry, distinguishing him from many general dentists who do not have the training to perform the surgical aspect.

We use Biohorizons Implants for all of our dental implant procedures. We also offer the teeth-in-an-hour treatment, where a temporary crown is installed at the same time as your implant so that you will not have a missing tooth while osseointegration occurs.

The best thing about dental implants is that patients will receive all the benefits of their natural teeth, with dental implants. It is important to continue with good oral hygiene as you would with your normal teeth to prevent bacteria buildup.
