Porcelain Veneers
Veneers in Bismarck & Garrison, ND
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made porcelain shells that get bonded to the front surface of your teeth, creating a beautiful new smile. Due to the versatility of the treatment and durability of dental porcelain, Deeter Dental often recommends porcelain veneers as a component of your smile makeover procedure.
Advantages of Porcelain Veneers
The dental porcelain material used in the construction of your veneers offers several advantages over other restorative materials:
- It is harder than your natural tooth enamel, resulting in a long-lasting restoration.
- Veneers mimic the translucency properties of tooth enamel, providing you with very natural looking results that are nearly indistinguishable from adjacent teeth.
- It is highly resistant to stains and should not show signs of discoloration.
Dental Problems Fixed By Veneers
Porcelain veneers are an ideal treatment to correct:
- Discolored teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Irregularly shaped teeth
- Crooked, uneven, or misaligned teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Worn teeth
The varied applications for this procedure make it an excellent option to help you correct just about any cosmetic dentistry problem you may have.
Types of Dental Veneers
Deeter Dental works with two kinds of porcelain veneers: Direct & Indirect
Direct veneers are created in the office and applied directly to the front of your tooth without any preparation necessary. Indirect veneers, or porcelain veneers, are very thin pieces of porcelain created in one of our specialized dental labs. Porcelain veneers require your teeth to be prepared before the veneers are created by removing a thin layer of tooth enamel.
Dr. Deeter will make the direct veneers chair-side by hand from composite, bondable material. They are an excellent option for young people with undersized teeth producing large spaces. Since Dr. Deeter creates your direct veneers in-office, we can complete the entire procedure in one office visit.
We send indirect veneers out to a dental lab. We use Minot Dental Lab and Aurem Labs for the creation of all of our porcelain veneers. Both labs have received training from the Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies, the premier cosmetic dentistry institution in the United States, and produce the finest dental restorations available. Indirect veneers are better suited for guests who have worn or rotated teeth, or who want to change the size, shape, color, or position of their teeth.
How Are Dental Veneers Made?
Direct dental veneers are made by applying several very thin layers of putty-like dental composite to the surface of your teeth and sculpting it into a natural-looking tooth shape. This is very similar to tooth bonding and does not require any enamel to be removed from the surface of your tooth.
Indirect porcelain veneers are created after an impression is taken of your prepared tooth or teeth and sent to a highly specialized dental lab. The impression of your teeth is used to create very thin pieces of tooth-shaped porcelain which are affixed to the front surface of your teeth with a strong dental adhesive.
Choosing Size, Shape, & Color of Veneers
Our patients have virtually endless choices regarding the size, shape, and color of their dental veneers. You may choose to have larger or smaller teeth, more square or round veneers. You may also choose from a wide range of tints and colors, from extremely white to a more natural looking tint. Because of their versatility, dental veneers are often used in smile makeovers to help create a completely new smile.
Porcelain Veneer Procedure
Dr. Terry Deeter will need to remove a small amount of your tooth surface before applying your porcelain veneers. First, we take an impression of your tooth and send it to our dental lab for use in the creation of your veneers. Once we receive the finished product from the lab, your porcelain veneers will get bonded to the surface of your teeth.
Before your new porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth, Dr. Deeter will also make sure they fit properly and match your natural tooth color. Your teeth will then be cleaned, polished, and etched to facilitate the bonding process. Dr. Deeter will apply bonding cement and place the veneers on your teeth. We use a special light to activate the bonding agent in the cement. Before you leave, Dr. Deeter will clean up the surrounding teeth, removing any excess bonding cement from your tooth’s surface.
Will People Be Able To Tell That I Have Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are a very natural looking restoration, and most people will not even know you have undergone cosmetic dentistry work. Most patients find that their friends and family ask if they have lost weight, had a facelift, or taken a vacation, but very rarely will people pinpoint the source of your new, confident smile.
