Questions About Your Dental Crown
Bismarck, Garrison – North Dakota
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown, also called a tooth crown, is a dental restoration which surrounds your tooth and protects it from decay and damage caused by external sources. Dental crowns are often used to correct common cosmetic dental problems when the tooth’s enamel has been compromised and is unable to protect the pulp in the center of the tooth, generally due to a crack or break.
What types of dental crowns do you offer?
At Deeter Dental, we offer three types of dental crowns:
Each type of dental crown has its own benefits, but the type of dental crown we most commonly recommend is all-porcelain.
Why should I consider a porcelain dental crown?
All-porcelain crowns are made from specialized dental porcelain which is very strong and can be made in virtually any shape and tinted to match your surrounding teeth. A porcelain dental crown, when correctly made, can be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth and offers a great deal of protection for your natural tooth. For these and other reasons, a porcelain dental crown is usually the best option to protect a damaged tooth.
How long will my dental crown last?
Your dental crown should last anywhere between 5 and 15 years. However, most of our dental crowns generally last at least 10 years or more. Several factors may impact the life of your crown, including tooth grinding, trauma to your mouth, and excessive chewing. Furthermore, by practicing good oral hygiene practices, you can help ensure your crown will last as long as possible.
How should I care for my dental crown?
You can care for you dental crown exactly as you do your natural teeth; however, you should keep in mind that a dental crown will not protect the exposed portion of your tooth or the tooth’s root below the gum line. Practicing good oral hygiene and flossing daily can help protect your dental crown and the tooth it is covering.
Who makes dental crowns for Deeter Dental?
At Deeter Dental, we offer three different types of dental crowns. It is most common for one of our affiliate dental labs to create your dental crowns. This helps assure that your dental crown will look and feel as natural as possible.
