What Exactly is Orthotropics?

We here at Deeter Dental Group pride ourselves on staying on top of the latest research when it comes to anything regarding our patients’ dental health, which is why we’re excited to offer Biobloc Orthotropics. It’s not Orthodontics, though Orthotropics is closely related as they both concern and treat the misalignment of teeth and jaws. Actually, Biobloc Orthotropics takes into account key pieces of information and offers a better treatment plan than traditional Orthodontics for patients with certain issues. We like to think of it as a more-specialized treatment rather than a one-size-fits all solution. Keep reading to learn more about this fascinating new technology
As we mentioned above, Biobloc Orthotropics allows us to look at more information before making adjustments to still-growing teeth and jaws. For example, certain factors might indicate that traditional Orthodontics might not be the best fit, and that Orthotropics might be right for your child.
If these seem to describe your child, we might just have a solution:
- Upper and lower jaws growing down and back (weak chin)
- Smaller airway
- Trouble breathing
- Snoring
- Behavioral issues
- Jaw, joint pain
- Crooked, crowded, or buck teeth
- Long face
These problems begin with certain genetic and/or environmental factors, but they can get worse as children grow. Biobloc Orthodontics aims to correct these issues before they become serious. How does it work? Children wear an appliance for a set amount of time to help move their upper front teeth into their correct position. The lower jaw then slowly moves forward to line up with the upper jaw. The treatment works best with children between the ages of 4-10 years old since they are still growing and developing their jaws during this time.
Many traditional Orthodontists don’t treat the issues where they begin and, instead, can actually end up pushing the teeth and jaws back further than they need to be. This can cause even more trouble breathing as the airway is made smaller by crowding the jaw backward.
